Order a frame that is too tall and you find out when the plasterboard is already up. The frame has to suit the wall it sits in, not the other way round.
Wall hung toilet frame height depends on the wall, not the pan. Geberit Alpha frames at 82cm and 98cm suit part-height pre-walls, such as under a window. Grohe Rapid SL at 1.13m suits a taller wall. Before ordering, check pan projection, floor build-up and flush volume.

What does wall hung toilet frame height actually measure?
It is the overall height of the steel frame, from the floor it stands on to the top of the frame. That figure decides which wall build the frame fits. It does not set how high the seat sits.
Seat height is a separate decision, made when the pan is fixed. Take that range from the pan maker's data sheet, not from the frame. The frame's job is to carry the cistern, the pipework and the load.
82cm, 98cm or 1.13m: which frame suits which wall?
Use the Geberit 82cm or 98cm frame when the wall is part height. Use the Grohe 1.13m frame when the wall rises above that. KT stocks all three, among 18 installation frames.
| Frame | Size | Wall build | Price inc VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Geberit Alpha 82cm (458.033.00.2) | 82 x 50 x 14cm | Metal or timber stud, part-height pre-wall | £190.53 |
| Geberit Alpha 98cm (458.036.00.2) | 98 x 50 x 12cm | Metal or timber stud, part-height pre-wall | £189.71 |
| Grohe Rapid SL 3-in-1 1.13m (38721001) | 1.13m high | In front of a solid wall, or in a stud wall | £238.67, plate included |
Geberit's data sheets describe both Alpha frames as statically self-supporting steel. The 82cm frame is 14cm deep and the 98cm frame is 12cm deep, so plan the pre-wall for the frame you choose.
Write the frame height, pan projection and flush plate on one job sheet before you order. Most second deliveries start with a missing detail.
Worked example: fitting a pan under a 1,050mm window cill
A ground-floor washroom has a window cill 1,050mm above the floor the frame stands on. The pan has to sit under it. Here is how to choose.
- Measure from the floor up to the underside of the cill: 1,050mm.
- Compare that with the frame heights: 820mm, 980mm and 1,130mm.
- The 1.13m frame is 80mm too tall, so it cannot go under the cill.
- The 98cm frame fits with 70mm to spare. The 82cm frame leaves 230mm.
- Check the flush plate and the service opening also clear the cill before you commit.
Frame heights drawn to scale against a 1,050mm cill. Only the 82cm and 98cm frames pass under it.
Price should not decide this. A Geberit 98cm frame with an Alpha01 plate is £226.35 and Grohe's 1.13m 3-in-1 set is £238.67, a gap of £12.32 (inc VAT, checked 31 October 2026). A wrong pre-wall costs far more than that to rebuild.
Which checks matter as much as height?
- Pan projection. Geberit's data sheets limit the pan to a projection of 62cm, with connection dimensions to EN 33. Measure your pan first.
- Floor build-up. The Alpha frames cover floor constructions from 0 to 20cm. Geberit lists a 20cm foot extension set for deeper build-ups.
- Flush volume. The Alpha cistern ships at 5.8 litres full and 3 litres reduced, and adjusts up to 7.5 litres. Grohe's GD 2 cistern adjusts from 6 to 9 litres.
England and Wales cap a WC flush at 6 litres, and a reduced flush may not exceed two-thirds of the largest. The source is Schedule 2, paragraph 25 of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 on legislation.gov.uk. Set the large flush to 6 litres or less. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own water rules.
Which flush plate and pan go with each frame?
The frame does not include the pan. Wall-hung toilet pans are a separate order, and each must match the frame's EN 33 connection dimensions and its projection limit.
Plates are brand specific. KT lists the Alpha frames on their own, or bundled with an Alpha01 plate in round or square. Geberit lists the 98cm frame for front actuation and the 82cm for top or front. Browse the flush plates before you box anything in.
Grohe's 3-in-1 sets include a plate, so that choice is made for you. Check the listing names the plate you want.
Three mistakes that cost a second delivery
- Ordering the wrong Rapid SL element. The Rapid SL family also covers basins and urinals. KT stocks a basin element at £118.60 and a urinal element at £215.82, so check the product number is for a WC.
- Boxing in before the plate arrives. The plate decides how you reach the cistern. Order it with the frame.
- Assuming the load rating. Grohe states 400kg for Rapid SL. Geberit's Alpha data sheets give no figure, though KT's listing for the 98cm frame says up to 400kg. For bariatric rooms, get the rating confirmed in writing.
What to check before you buy
- Wall height measured from the floor the frame stands on.
- Pan projection at 62cm or less for the Geberit Alpha frames.
- Floor build-up at 20cm or less, or the extension set added.
- Flush plate chosen and ordered with the frame.
- Large flush set to 6 litres or less.
At the time of writing KT lists the Geberit Alpha 82cm frame at £190.53, the 98cm at £189.71 and Grohe's 1.13m 3-in-1 set at £238.67. Prices include VAT and were checked 31 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions
There is no single standard. Geberit's Alpha frames at KT are 82cm and 98cm high, and Grohe's Rapid SL set is 1.13m. Choose by the wall you are building: part-height pre-walls take the shorter frames, and taller walls take the 1.13m frame.
Only if the cill sits above 1,130mm, measured from the floor the frame stands on. A lower cill rules it out, and the 82cm or 98cm Geberit frames fit instead. Measure the cill before you order, and check the plate and service opening clear it as well.
Geberit describes its Alpha frames as statically self-supporting steel, with foot plates and galvanised leg supports. The frame stands on the floor and is fixed to the wall, and the pan hangs from it. Grohe's Rapid SL can go in front of a solid wall or in a stud wall.
In England and Wales, a WC flush may not exceed 6 litres, and a reduced flush may not exceed two-thirds of the largest flush. Geberit's Alpha cistern ships at 5.8 and 3 litres. Grohe's GD 2 cistern adjusts from 6 to 9 litres, so set it to 6.
The plain Geberit Alpha frames do not include a plate, so you choose one. KT also lists Alpha frames bundled with an Alpha01 plate, and Grohe's 3-in-1 Rapid SL sets include their own plate. Check the listing title for the word plate before you order.
Grohe states 400kg for its Rapid SL frame. Geberit's data sheets for the Alpha frames give no load figure, although KT's listing for the 98cm frame says up to 400kg. If the room is for heavier users, ask the supplier for the rating in writing.
