How to choose a light switch
Count the gangs (switches on one plate) you need, then check ways: every switch here is 2-way capable, so it works in single-switch circuits and in hall/landing pairs alike — three or more positions also need an intermediate switch. Metal plates need an earthed circuit; screwless plates need a flush 25mm back box.

What is the difference between a 1-way and 2-way light switch?
A 1-way switch controls a light from one position; a 2-way switch lets two switches control the same light, such as the top and bottom of the stairs. Most UK plate switches are sold as 2-way and can be wired 1-way.
Are your light switches compatible with LED bulbs?
Standard switches work with LED lighting. For dimming, use a trailing-edge LED dimmer and check the minimum and maximum load for your bulbs.
What height should a light switch be fitted at?
UK light switches are usually fitted 1.2m to 1.35m above the floor for accessibility, in line with Part M of the Building Regulations.
Do I need an electrician to fit a light switch?
A like-for-like swap on an existing circuit is generally permitted. New circuits are notifiable under Part P, so use a qualified electrician if you are unsure.
