Why Luceco Is the Lighting Brand Trade Buyers Keep Coming Back To

Wrong colour temperature, wrong IP rating, wrong driver compatibility — every one of those is a day lost on a commercial fit-out. Luceco takes most of that risk off the table.

What Luceco Actually Makes

Five categories that trade buyers care about — and nothing that does not earn its place:

  • LED panels (600x600mm and 1200x300mm) — offices, retail, hospitality back-of-house, education
  • LED battens (2ft to 6ft) — warehouses, plant rooms, car parks, storerooms
  • LED strip and drivers — display lighting, under-cabinet runs, cove and feature work
  • Emergency lighting — maintained and non-maintained, 3-hour backup, BS EN 60598-2-22 tested
  • Outdoor fittings — PIR floodlights, bollard lights, IP65 wall lanterns

This is a trade-first range. Not a consumer brand moonlighting as a contractor supplier. The pricing, packaging and product construction are built for volume buyers.

Colour Temperature: The One Variable That Bites

More commercial specs go wrong on colour temperature than anything else. Once the fittings are in and the plasterer has been through, correcting a mismatch is a full strip-and-replace job at your cost.

Colour Temp Feel Right For
2700K Warm, amber Hotel guest rooms, restaurant dining, bedrooms
3000K Warm, clean Kitchens, bathrooms, hotel corridors and lobbies
4000K Cool, crisp Offices, schools, warehouses, plant rooms
6500K Daylight, blue-white Industrial, workshops, inspection areas

Hotel fit-out rule of thumb: 2700K or 3000K in all guest-facing areas, 4000K in back-of-house. Order one sample before committing to volume. Two days. Saves a week.

IP Ratings: Which Fitting Goes Where

Using the wrong IP rating in a wet or dusty location is a certification problem, not just a wear issue. Under BS 7671:2018 Regulation 701.512.3, bathroom Zone 1 requires IP45 minimum. Zone 2 requires IP44. No exceptions.

  • IP20 — dry indoor only. Standard office panel territory.
  • IP44 — splash-proof. Bathrooms outside Zone 1, kitchens, corridor entrances.
  • IP65 — dust-tight, jet-resistant. Commercial kitchens, car parks, loading bays, covered canopies.
  • IP66+ — full outdoor exposure. Luceco's floodlight and wall lantern range.
On catering kitchens specifically: An IP65 batten specified now is a much better long-term call than an IP44 that fails in two years when steam ingress catches up with the driver. The cost difference at order is small. The callback cost is not.

Luceco vs. The Competition

vs. Philips: Philips wins on brand recognition with end clients. Luceco wins on trade price — typically 20–30% cheaper for equivalent output and IP rating. If the client is not scrutinising the label on the fitting, Luceco is the call.

vs. Aurora: Closest competitor by market position. Luceco edges Aurora on driver reliability and IP65 batten strength. Aurora has more decorative residential options where Luceco's portfolio is lighter.

vs. Knightsbridge: Knightsbridge's lighting range is narrower and priced higher. For commercial panel and batten volume, Luceco covers more use cases at a better trade price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Selected models include DALI-compatible drivers — not the full range. Check the spec sheet before ordering. Standard models use fixed-output drivers. If your BMS requires DALI, confirm driver type at quote stage.
Ra>80 on standard commercial models — meets CIBSE LG7 for general office and commercial use. Ra>90 available on selected lines for retail, medical and colour-critical applications, at around 15–25% price premium.
Yes — specify the IP65 batten. It protects against steam and directed water jets, covering a standard daily commercial kitchen cleaning regime. For walk-in cold rooms or high-pressure wash-down zones, confirm the IP spec before ordering.
Self-test models run a 30-second function test monthly and a full 3-hour duration test annually — automatically, no manual intervention needed. Results stored in the fitting's internal log. A red LED indicator flags any failed test.
Yes, at marked cut points only (typically every 50mm or 100mm depending on model). Cutting between marked points damages the circuit. Always pair with a Luceco driver rated for the total wattage of the run — not a generic driver from another brand.
