Ideal Standard Oleas M3 Flush Plate - Matt Black Mechanical Dual Flush

A matt black dual flush plate from the Ideal Standard Oleas range designed by Studio Levien. Purely mechanical, 8.5mm deep and supplied with the mounting frame and rods needed to fit it to an Ideal Standard ProSys frame.

The Oleas M3 is the larger squared plate in the range, moulded in ABS and finished in A6 matt black with a true matt surface. It measures 241mm wide by 165mm high and mounts front or top. Two spring-loaded buttons give both flush volumes at under 20N of pressure. Because this is a mechanical dual flush plate with no electronics inside, Ideal Standard confirm it still operates in the event of a power failure.

Check the frame and actuation type

This plate connects to Ideal Standard ProSys frames and cisterns using mechanical actuation.

Decide front or top mounting

Both are supported. Front mounting is the usual choice. Top mounting suits a cistern boxed into a low furniture run where reaching a front plate would be awkward. Settle this before the boxing goes in, as the activation rods are set to suit.

A matt black finish that is matt all the way through

Moulded ABS finished in Ideal Standard's A6 matt black with a genuine matt surface effect rather than a low-gloss lacquer. The plate is a clean squared geometric shape measuring 241mm wide by 165mm high. At 8.5mm projection it sits close to the tile face.

Two flush volumes and it still works in a power cut

Both buttons are spring-loaded and need under 20N to press. There is no battery, sensor or mains supply anywhere in the assembly, so the flush is mechanically operated in the event of a power failure. Ideal Standard confirm this behaviour for the R0123 plate.

Will the Oleas M3 fit my concealed cistern?
It is made for Ideal Standard ProSys mechanical actuation WC frames and concealed cisterns. If your frame is ProSys and uses mechanical rather than pneumatic or electronic actuation, this plate is the right fit. On another manufacturer's frame it will not connect. Check the frame first, because flush plates and frames are matched systems rather than universal parts.
What is the difference between the Oleas M3 and the M2?
Both are mechanical dual flush plates from the same range, so they operate identically. The M3 here is the larger plate at 241 x 165mm in matt black. The Oleas M2 in Brushed Chrome is the smaller plate at 234 x 154mm in a metallic finish. Both project 8.5mm and both take the same ProSys frames, so the choice is size and finish.
Does a dual flush plate work during a power cut?
This one does. Ideal Standard list the R0123 as mechanically operated in the event of a power failure. Two spring-loaded buttons act on the cistern valve with no battery, sensor or mains supply involved. Flush behaviour in a power cut is exactly the same as on any other day.
How deep does the flush plate sit on the wall?
The projection is 8.5mm, so it stands just proud of the finished tile face. Height is 165mm and width 241mm. It is worth measuring against your tile layout if you want the plate to land inside a whole tile rather than across a grout line.
Can it be mounted at the top of the cistern rather than the front?
Yes. The mounting method is front or top, which helps where the cistern is boxed into a low run of furniture and a front-facing plate would be awkward to reach. Decide before the boxing goes in, as the activation rods are set to suit.
Is anything else needed to install it?
The mounting frame, activation rods and connector rods are all included, so for a straightforward ProSys installation there is nothing further to buy and servicing later is tool-free. You will still need the frame and cistern themselves if you are starting from scratch, plus a compatible pan such as the RAK Moon rimless wall hung WC pan.
Can the flush volumes be adjusted at the plate?
No. The flush volumes are not adjustable at the plate itself. The two volumes are set by the valve inside the cistern, so any adjustment is made there rather than on the front. This is normal for mechanical dual flush plates.
Is the matt black finish hard to keep clean?
Wipe it with a soft damp cloth and dry it off. Avoid abrasive creams, bleach and limescale removers. On a true matt surface these leave shiny patches that cannot be buffed out. In a hard water area, drying after cleaning is what keeps the finish even.
Is this suitable for a commercial washroom?
It is specified for education, healthcare, hotel, leisure, office and residential settings. It is not an anti-vandal plate, so for a school washroom or another high-abuse public location a metal plate such as the Armitage Shanks Septa Pro M1 is the more robust choice.
