Ideal Standard Oleas M2 Flush Plate in Brushed Chrome

A brushed chrome dual flush plate from the Ideal Standard Oleas range designed by Studio Levien. Purely mechanical, 8.5mm deep and supplied with the mounting frame and rods needed to fit an Ideal Standard ProSys frame.

The Oleas M2 is the compact squared plate in the range at 234mm wide by 154mm high. It is moulded in ABS with a chromium-plated surface finished to a satin effect, which is what gives brushed chrome its softer look next to polished chrome. Two spring-loaded buttons deliver both flush volumes at under 20N of pressure, and because this is a mechanical dual flush plate with no electronics inside it still operates in the event of a power failure.

Two questions settle it before finish enters the conversation: what frame is behind the wall and where the plate needs to sit.

Confirm the frame and actuation type

This plate connects to Ideal Standard ProSys frames and cisterns using mechanical actuation.

Choose front or top mounting

Both are supported. Front mounting is the usual choice. Top mounting suits a cistern boxed into a low furniture run where a front plate would be awkward to reach. Decide before the boxing goes in because the activation rods are set to suit.

A satin brushed chrome finish over a chromium-plated surface

The plate is moulded ABS with a chromium-plated surface cover finished to a satin effect. That is what gives brushed chrome its soft low-reflection look rather than the mirror shine of polished chrome. It also hides fingerprints and water spotting far better than a gloss finish.

Two flush volumes that keep working in a power cut

Both buttons are spring-loaded and need under 20N to press. Nothing inside is electronic so there is no battery, sensor or mains supply to fail. Ideal Standard list the R0121 as mechanically operated in the event of a power failure.

Will the Oleas M2 fit my concealed cistern?
It is built for Ideal Standard ProSys WC frames and concealed cisterns that use mechanical actuation. If your frame is ProSys and mechanical then this plate is the right fit. It will not connect to a pneumatic or electronic frame and it will not fit another manufacturer's system. Check the frame behind the wall before ordering because plates and frames are matched systems rather than universal parts.
What is the difference between the Oleas M2 and the M3?
Size and finish. The M2 here measures 234 by 154mm in brushed chrome. The Oleas M3 in matt black is the larger plate at 241 by 165mm. Both project 8.5mm, both are mechanical dual flush and both take the same ProSys frames, so the decision is how large you want the plate to read on the wall and which finish suits the room.
Is brushed chrome the same as matt chrome?
You will see this finish written both ways. Ideal Standard label the JG colour code Brushed Chrome on the product datasheet and Matt Chrome in some of their colour selectors. It is the same finish either way: a chromium-plated surface with a satin effect rather than a polished mirror shine.
Does a dual flush plate work during a power cut?
This one does. The mechanism is purely mechanical so two spring-loaded buttons act on the cistern valve with no battery, sensor or mains supply involved. Flushing behaves exactly the same in a power cut as on any other day.
How far does the plate stick out from the wall?
The projection is 8.5mm so it sits just proud of the finished tile face. The plate measures 234mm wide by 154mm high. It is worth checking that against your tile setting out if you would rather the plate landed inside a whole tile than across a grout line.
Can it be mounted on top of the cistern instead of the front?
Yes. Front and top mounting are both supported. Top mounting is useful where the cistern is boxed into a low furniture run and reaching a front plate would be awkward. Settle this before the boxing goes in because the activation rods are set to suit.
Is anything else needed to install it?
The mounting frame, activation rods and connector rods are all supplied so there is nothing further to buy for a standard ProSys installation, and servicing later needs no tools. You will still need the frame and cistern if you are starting from scratch, plus a pan such as the RAK Moon rimless wall hung WC pan.
Can the flush volumes be adjusted at the plate?
No. The two volumes are set by the valve inside the cistern rather than at the plate, so any adjustment happens there. This is normal for mechanical dual flush plates.
How should the brushed chrome finish be cleaned?
A soft damp cloth and a dry off afterwards is all it needs. Keep abrasive creams, bleach and limescale removers away from it because they dull a satin surface and the marks cannot be polished out. Drying after cleaning is what stops water spotting in a hard water area.
Is this suitable for a commercial washroom?
It is specified for education, healthcare, hotel, leisure, office and residential use. It is not an anti-vandal plate though, so for a school washroom or another high-abuse public location a metal plate such as the Armitage Shanks Septa Pro M1 stands up better.
