Description

Scudo Descent Wall Mounted Basin Mixer Tap - Matt Black - BLACK253ORBL

Scudo Descent Wall Mounted Basin Mixer in Matt Black

A wall mounted basin mixer tap in matt black with a bold lever and a curved waterfall spout. Solid brass, and it needs no tap holes in the basin at all.

The Descent is Scudo's clean-lined matt black basin mixer range. This wall mounted model projects 222mm from the wall and runs on a single 35mm lever cartridge. It works from 0.2 bar up to 5 bar, giving 7.8 litres a minute at 1 bar and 13.4 at 3 bar. Because the body is built into the wall, the basin below stays completely clear.

Two things to check before you order a wall mounted tap

Wall mounted brassware is less forgiving than a deck tap, so it is worth being certain on pressure and first fix.

1

Know your water pressure

A waterfall spout rewards pressure. Scudo publish the full curve.

  • 0.2 bar gives 2.4 L/min, workable but slow
  • 1 bar gives 7.8 L/min, comfortable
  • 3 bar gives 13.4 L/min, generous
2

Plan it into first fix

The valve body sits inside the wall, so the plumbing has to be run and the fixing supported before tiling. Flexible tails are not included and neither is a waste. On a stud wall you will need noggins behind the fixing point.

What this tap does and does not include

Included Tap body, lever handle, 35mm single lever cartridge

Not included Flexible tails, basin waste

Not required Tap holes in the basin, because it is wall mounted

Budget for tails and a waste when you order so the installation is not held up.

This model is not WRAS approved. Scudo list much of the Descent collection as WRAS approved but this wall mounted version is not. If your project specifies WRAS approved brassware, talk to us before ordering and we will find you an alternative that carries it.

Scudo Descent matt black wall mounted basin mixer tap BLACK253ORBL

Solid brass under a matt black finish

The body is brass rather than a lighter alloy, which is what accounts for the 1.795kg weight. The matt black finish is low sheen rather than gloss, so fingerprints and water marks show far less than they do on a polished surface.

A waterfall spout and a single lever

The curved spout gives an open waterfall flow rather than an aerated stream, and a single 35mm lever cartridge handles both temperature and volume. The lever is deliberately bold, which makes it easy to work with wet or soapy hands.

Wall mounted, so the basin needs no tap holes

Everything mounts through the wall and the tap requires zero tap holes in the basin. That opens up countertop bowls and stone basins that have no provision for a tap, and it leaves the basin surface clear to wipe down.

Frequently asked questions

What water pressure does this tap need?
Scudo rate it from 0.2 bar minimum to 5 bar maximum. It will technically run from 0.2 bar but the flow at that pressure is only 2.4 litres a minute, which fills a basin slowly. It comes alive from about 1 bar upward, where you get 7.8 litres a minute. If you are on a gravity system with a low tank, check your pressure before choosing a waterfall spout.
What flow rate will I actually get?
It depends entirely on your pressure, and Scudo publish the whole curve: 2.4 L/min at 0.2 bar, 5.5 at 0.5 bar, 7.8 at 1 bar, 11 at 2 bar and 13.4 at 3 bar. Most UK mains-fed homes sit somewhere between 1 and 3 bar, so expect roughly 8 to 13 litres a minute.
Is this tap WRAS approved?
No. Scudo list much of the Descent collection as WRAS approved but this particular wall mounted model is not, and we would rather tell you that plainly than let you find out later. If your installation specifically requires WRAS approved brassware, speak to us first and we will point you at something that carries it.
Do I need a basin with tap holes?
No, and that is the point of a wall mounted mixer. It needs zero tap holes because the body sits inside the wall and only the spout and lever come through. That makes it the right answer for a countertop bowl or a stone basin with no tap provision.
What is involved in fitting a wall mounted tap?
The valve body has to be built into the wall before tiling, with 1/2 inch BSP inlets plumbed to it, so it needs planning at first fix rather than being a swap you do later. Flexible tails are not included. If the wall is a stud partition it will need noggins to carry the fixing.
How far does the spout reach over the basin?
The overall projection is 222mm from the wall, with the tap measuring 200mm wide and 130mm high. Check that projection against your basin depth so the water lands where you want it rather than at the front edge or against the back.
Is a waterfall spout noisier or splashier than a normal tap?
It is a more open flow, so it does splash more readily in a shallow basin, especially at higher pressure. In a deeper basin it looks and sounds good. If you have a very shallow countertop bowl, that is worth thinking about before you commit.
How should the matt black finish be cleaned?
A soft damp cloth and a dry off afterwards. Keep abrasive creams, bleach and limescale removers away from it, because a matt finish cannot be polished back if it is dulled and the shiny patches are permanent. In a hard water area, drying after each clean is what keeps the finish even.
Can I match this with other black fittings?
Yes, and it pays to plan it. It sits naturally alongside the Ideal Standard Idealfill bath filler and waste in Silk Black and the Oleas M3 matt black flush plate. If brushed gold suits the room better, the RAK Amalfi mid height basin mixer is the alternative. Black finishes vary in warmth between brands, so order one piece first if you are mixing manufacturers.
Is a waste included?
No. The tap is supplied without a waste and without flexible tails, so budget for both. Tell us the basin you are pairing it with and we will confirm which waste suits, particularly whether the basin has an overflow.
What are the delivery and returns options?
We offer fast reliable UK-wide delivery with quicker express options if you need it sooner. Exact costs and timing are confirmed at checkout based on your location and the service you choose. Unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 14 days of receipt for a refund, with return postage payable by the customer on unwanted or incorrectly ordered items.
