Description

Salamander Whole House Catalytic Water Conditioner - 3-25 L/min - CWCOND02

Salamander Whole House Water Conditioner - Catalytic Limescale Protection

A whole house water conditioner that tackles limescale without salt, chemicals or electricity. Fitted in-line on the cold water rising main, the CWCOND02 treats every outlet in the property downstream of it.

Inside is an alloy core that changes calcium carbonate from calcite to aragonite. In a hard water area that is the difference between scale bonding to your pipework and scale simply passing through. The minerals stay in the water, so it remains perfectly drinkable. Rated 3-25 L/min for 15mm pipework, WRAS approved, 10 bar maximum pressure and a 10-year warranty.

How to choose the correct water conditioner for your home

Two things decide it: your incoming flow rate and your pipe size. Size it wrong and you compromise both water delivery and treatment.

1

What is your mains flow rate?

Run the cold tap nearest your stop tap and time a 10-litre bucket.

  • Up to 25 L/min - this CWCOND02
  • Above 25 L/min - the CWCOND03
2

What size is your rising main?

This unit ends in 1/2" BSP-T male threads and ships with 15mm brass fittings, so it drops onto 15mm pipework. On a 22mm main, the CWCOND03 is the correct choice.

Which whole house water conditioner fits your flow?

CWCOND02 3-25 L/min · 300 x 28mm · 1/2" BSP-T · 15mm fittings - this product

CWCOND03 24-54 L/min · 330 x 35mm · 3/4" BSP-T · 22mm fittings

Measure first. Where flow is low or scale is already heavy inside the pipe, going one size smaller than the pipe diameter is recommended.

This is a water conditioner, not a water softener. It prevents limescale forming rather than removing minerals, so your water will not feel soft. It does not filter or purify either - the water is unchanged to drink.

Frequently asked questions

Does a water conditioner stop limescale?
Yes - that is exactly what it is for. A catalytic water conditioner prevents the calcium build-up that causes limescale in pipework, heating systems and appliances. It treats the cause rather than descaling after the fact, so in a hard water area it keeps kettle elements, shower heads and cylinder coils far cleaner for far longer.
Water conditioner vs water softener - what is the difference?
A softener removes the calcium and magnesium, so the water actually feels soft. A conditioner leaves those minerals in and changes the form they crystallise into, so scale stops sticking. Your water will not feel any different after fitting this unit - what changes is the limescale. There is no salt to buy and no regeneration cycle.
Can you drink water treated by a water conditioner?
Yes. Nothing is added and nothing is removed - the mineral content is unchanged and the unit is WRAS approved, so the water is exactly as drinkable as before. It is not a filter, so it will not alter taste or strip anything out.
How do I choose the correct water conditioner - CWCOND02 or CWCOND03?
Size it on your incoming mains flow rate, not on guesswork. Time how long a 10-litre bucket takes to fill from the cold tap nearest your stop tap. Up to 25 L/min on 15mm pipework, this CWCOND02 is your unit. Above that, or on a 22mm rising main, choose the larger CWCOND03 (24-54 L/min). Where flow is low, or there is already heavy scale inside the pipe, a conditioner one size smaller than the pipe diameter is recommended.
What does "300 x 28mm, 1/2" BSP-T" mean?
It is the size and the thread. The body is 300mm long and 28mm in diameter, so you need roughly 300mm of straight pipe to fit it into. Each end carries a 1/2" BSP tapered male thread, and 15mm x 1/2" female brass fittings are supplied to join it to 15mm pipework.
Where does it fit, and can I install it vertically?
It goes in-line on the cold water rising main, after the mains stop tap, so the whole property is treated. Horizontal or vertical both work. There is a flow direction arrow engraved on the body - fit it the way the arrow points. Turn the supply back on slowly and check for leaks as pressure is restored.
Will a water conditioner protect a shower pump?
Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to fit one. Scale is hard on pumps, heating elements and shower heads. Treating the water where it enters the property protects everything downstream, so if you run or are fitting a Salamander ORA 2.0 shower pump, doing both together is sensible.
