What is the difference between a single and double socket?
A double socket has two 13A outlets on one plate but shares the same circuit, so it does not double the available power. Avoid running two high-load appliances from one at the same time.
Are USB sockets worth it?
USB sockets add USB-A or USB-C charging ports alongside the 13A outlets, so you can charge phones and tablets without a plug adaptor.
What amp rating are UK sockets?
UK plug sockets are rated 13A per outlet to BS 1363, with built-in safety shutters and fused plugs.
Can I fit a socket myself?
Replacing a socket like-for-like is generally permitted. New circuits are notifiable under Part P, so use a qualified electrician if you are unsure.
