BG Nexus Switches & Sockets

BG Nexus splits into three plate styles that share the same internals but differ in finish. Nexus White Moulded is the standard white plastic range for everyday domestic and commercial installs, and it is the most economical. Nexus Metal adds a flat metal plate in finishes such as brushed steel, matt black and polished chrome, while Nexus Screwless gives a clean flat plate with no visible fixing screws for a more premium look. Importantly, all three are wired the same way and made to the same UK standards — BS 1363 for the 13A sockets and BS EN 60669-1 for the switches — so the choice is purely cosmetic and budget-driven rather than technical.

Specifically, the line covers 13A single and double sockets, USB-A and USB-C sockets, 1-gang to 4-gang light switches, trailing-edge LED dimmers, fused connection units and 45A cooker and shower units, plus the matching metal and moulded back boxes. BG Nexus and BG Evolve are two separate BG ranges with a different plate profile, so the practical difference is appearance rather than wiring. Nexus is the core range with a squarer profile, offered in moulded, metal and screwless versions, whereas Evolve is the premium screwless range with a slimmer, softly rounded plate and concealed fixings in more designer finishes. Both ranges meet BS 1363 and BS EN 60669-1 and fit standard back boxes, so they are technically interchangeable on a circuit. However, because the two plate styles look distinct, it is best to keep a single room in one range; mix Nexus and Evolve across a property only where the difference is deliberate.

BG Nexus accessories fit standard UK back boxes, but the box depth matters for metal plates and dimmers. For flat moulded sockets and switches a 25mm box is usually fine, whereas metal plates, dimmers and USB sockets are better in a 35mm deep box to give the cabling room to fold back safely. Specifically, single-gang accessories take a 1-gang box and doubles take a 2-gang box, in either flush (sunk into the wall) or surface-mount form. For dry-lining or plasterboard walls, use the corresponding dry-lining box. Getting the depth right avoids strained terminals and helps the plate sit flush against the wall.
