Build from separate components when the required combination is not available complete, such as one trailing-edge dimmer beside a 2-way or intermediate switch. For a component build, record the visible plate family and finish, frame code, mechanism code, rocker code, circuit function, aperture count and back-box depth together. A similar-looking part or a shared Nexus Grid description is not enough evidence of mechanical compatibility.

Yes, where the chosen Nexus Grid frame and plate have enough compatible apertures, a custom plate can combine different functions such as a trailing-edge dimmer, 2-way switch or intermediate switch. Each aperture controls its own specified circuit function; gang count is not the number of lamps. Confirm the exact module and rocker codes, the existing circuit arrangement and whether dimming is required at one position only. A qualified electrician should verify the conductors and wiring design before installation.
