Description

BG Metal Clad 6 Gang Custom Labelled Appliance Grid Switch Panel

A bespoke grid switch panel built to your choice of labels, on a metal clad front plate for commercial and industrial installations.

Manufactured in heavy gauge steel and finished with epoxy powder coating, the plate is rugged and scratch resistant — made for the environments where a domestic finish does not last. Suitable for flush wall mounting, or surface mount with metal clad boxes.

Bespoke Grid Switch

The switch panel consists of the following:

Flush mounting metal back box - MC503
Mounting frame - 2x RFR34
Face plate - RMC6
The switches that you choose - If you prefer a different switch from the options below, please inform us, and we'll provide 6x R30 with your chosen switch.

  • R30 - 20 Amp Double Pole Switch Unprinted Switch (Used for other appliances)
  • R12 - 2 Way Single Pole Switch (For Lights Only)
  • R13 - Intermediate Switch
  • RBLNK - Blank Switch (Please note that this is not a working switch)
  • RFLEX - Flex Outlet
  • RFUSE - Fuse Holder

Ideal for commercial and industrial applications, Grid gives a wider range of configurations than fixed plates — commonly used in commercial kitchens, plant rooms, workshops and back-of-house areas to control several appliances from one panel.

Choice of switches:

20 Amp Double Pole Switch Labelled:

  • RRACW - AIR CON
  • RRBELLW - BELL SYMBOL
  • RRBLW - BOILER
  • RRCHW - COOKER HOOD
  • RRDWW - DISH WASHER
  • RRFNW - FAN
  • RRFZW - FREEZER
  • RRFDW - FRIDGE
  • RRFFW - FRIDGE FREEZER
  • RRHTW - HEATER
  • RRHBW - HOB
  • RRMWW - MICROWAVE
  • RROVW - OVEN
  • RRTDW - TUMBLE DRYER
  • RRWDW - WARMING DRAWER
  • RRWMW - WASHING MACHINE
  • RRWDISW - WASTE DISPOSAL
  • RRWHW - WATER HEATER
  • RRWCW - WINE COOLER
  • RRUPW - UNPRINTED

For lighting: RRLTW - LIGHTS, fitted to an R12 2 Way Single Pole Switch.

A note about "COOKERS":- There is no switch option for "Cooker" because a freestanding cooker would not normally be connected through a grid switch. The selection would therefore either be "hob" or "oven".

Supplied with fixing screws. A back box is not included — fits a standard 6 gang UK box for flush mounting, or a BG metal clad box for surface mounting.

Please note that if you do not let us know which switches you require your order will not be processed until you do so.

How to fit

Your grid switch arrives as a kit: a front plate, a metal grid frame and the switch modules you chose. Modules clip into the frame, the frame screws to the back box, and the plate fits over the top.

Safety first: Only fit this yourself if you are competent to do electrical work. Work must meet BS 7671, and some jobs (for example new circuits, or work in bathrooms) are notifiable under Part P in England and Wales. If in doubt, use a registered electrician.

  1. Switch the circuit off at the consumer unit and confirm it is dead with a voltage tester before touching any wiring.
  2. Unscrew the old switch, take a photo of the wiring and label which cable goes to which terminal.
  3. Check the back box is deep enough: at least 25 mm for switches, 35 mm for dimmers and larger plates (see the spec sheets below).
  4. Clip each module into the grid frame from the front, in the order shown on this listing, with the 'TOP' marking facing up.
  5. Wire each module: one-way uses COM and L1, two-way uses COM, L1 and L2, and an intermediate takes both pairs of strapper wires. For dimmers and 20A modules, follow BG's leaflet below.
  6. Connect the earth (green/yellow) cable to the earth terminal on the grid frame or metal plate.
  7. Screw the grid frame to the back box, then fit the front plate. Screwless plates clip over the frame.
  8. Switch the power back on and test every switch and dimmer.
