BG Metal Clad 4 Gang Switch 1x LED Dimmer 3x Intermediate Custom Grid The Metal Clad range from BG is manufactured in heavy gauge steel and finished with epoxy powder coating, giving a rugged scratch resistant plate for environments where a domestic finish does not last. The dimmer module is switchable between trailing and leading edge, so it suits dimmable LED, halogen and incandescent lamps. Soft start, smooth dimming and silent operation, with overload protection that turns the lights down or off if too many lamps or transformers are connected. Please check that your bulbs are marked dimmable before purchasing. The intermediate switch is used as the middle switch when you need to operate one light from 3 different locations, such as at the top and bottom of the stairs and at the end of a hallway or landing. It allows for more than 2 switches in a circuit. Please note that this switch will come in a grid format. You will be sent the following parts all supplied by BG: RFR34 - 1x 3 & 4 Gang Grid Yoke Frame RMC4 - 1x 4 Gang Cover Plate RDLT - 1x Dimmer Switch R13 - 3x Intermediate Switch Suitable for flush wall mounting, or surface mount with metal clad boxes. How to fit
Your grid switch arrives as a kit: a front plate, a metal grid frame and the switch modules you chose. Modules clip into the frame, the frame screws to the back box, and the plate fits over the top.
Safety first: Only fit this yourself if you are competent to do electrical work. Work must meet BS 7671, and some jobs (for example new circuits, or work in bathrooms) are notifiable under Part P in England and Wales. If in doubt, use a registered electrician.
- Switch the circuit off at the consumer unit and confirm it is dead with a voltage tester before touching any wiring.
- Unscrew the old switch, take a photo of the wiring and label which cable goes to which terminal.
- Check the back box is deep enough: at least 25 mm for switches, 35 mm for dimmers and larger plates (see the spec sheets below).
- Clip each module into the grid frame from the front, in the order shown on this listing, with the 'TOP' marking facing up.
- Wire each module: one-way uses COM and L1, two-way uses COM, L1 and L2, and an intermediate takes both pairs of strapper wires. For dimmers and 20A modules, follow BG's leaflet below.
- Connect the earth (green/yellow) cable to the earth terminal on the grid frame or metal plate.
- Screw the grid frame to the back box, then fit the front plate. Screwless plates clip over the frame.
- Switch the power back on and test every switch and dimmer.
