What size cooker switch do I need?
Most full-size cookers need a 45A double-pole cooker switch on a dedicated circuit. A small single oven or hob can sometimes use 32A. Your electrician sizes it from the appliance and cable.
Cooker switch with or without a socket?
Both are available. A version with a 13A socket adds a worktop outlet, though newer guidance discourages siting a socket directly above a hob.
Where should a cooker switch be fitted?
Readily accessible, usually within about 2 metres of the appliance and to one side, not directly above the hotplates.
Can I fit a cooker circuit myself?
No. A cooker circuit is notifiable fixed wiring under Part P and should be installed or certified by a qualified electrician.
