Do polished chrome sockets show fingerprints?
Polished chrome sockets do show fingerprints and smudges more readily than a brushed or satin finish, because the mirror surface reflects marks. For a high-touch spot such as a kitchen or hallway, brushed steel is the more forgiving alternative, or a screwless plate which has less visible hardware to mark. However, a quick wipe with a dry microfibre cloth keeps polished chrome looking sharp, and many buyers accept the trade-off for the brighter, more reflective look. Specifically, the BG polished chrome range matches across 13A sockets, switches and dimmers, all made to BS 1363 and BS EN 60669-1, so the finish choice does not change the underlying specification.
Can I match polished chrome dimmers and USB sockets?
Yes — the BG polished chrome range runs the full accessory set, so dimmers and USB sockets match the rest of the room. Specifically, it includes trailing-edge LED dimmers, double sockets with USB-A and USB-C outputs, fused connection units, fan isolators and 45A cooker and shower switches. The USB-C outlets add fast charging without sacrificing a 13A socket, which suits desks and bedrooms. For dimming, pick a trailing-edge LED-compatible model and keep the total lamp load inside its rated range; in contrast to leading-edge dimmers, trailing-edge units run more quietly and handle modern LED lamps better. Because every plate shares the chrome finish, the whole wall stays consistent.
Polished chrome or brushed steel — which should I choose?
Polished chrome and brushed steel are both BG metal finishes, and the choice comes down to look and upkeep. Polished chrome is a bright mirror finish that pairs well with chrome taps and door handles and gives a more reflective, statement look, whereas brushed steel has a softer satin sheen that hides fingerprints better and reads as more understated. For kitchens and other high-touch areas, brushed steel is the lower-maintenance option; for a brighter, more decorative feel, polished chrome wins. Importantly, both finishes are available across the BG Nexus Metal, Evolve and screwless ranges to the same BS 1363 and BS EN 60669-1 standards, so you can match the finish to the other metals in the room without changing range.
